ZAMALLOY is an alloy of copper with zinc, aluminium, iron and manganese. It is classed as high tensile brass but with much higher alloying levels, especially aluminium, ZAMALLOY offers very significant increases in strength and hardness properties more associated with aluminium bronzes.
ZAMALLOY is thus a distinctly special high performance brass selected for its excellent resistance to wear, abrasion and fatigue, together with high strength, anti-friction and galling resistance properties under heavy loads. The alloys primarily specified for highly stressed components subject to wear and is traditionally specified in the aircraft industry for items such as landing gear bearing bushes and other heavily loaded components. This type of application enables the engineer to make the best use of the alloy's special blend of wear and abrasion resistance, strength and hardness, especially in heavily loaded machinery.
