Industries
Columbia Metals offers an extensive range of materials ex-stock to service virtually all industry sectors. From aerospace to architecture and offshore to electrical we have supplied suitable grades of metal. Much of our material is initially purchased by machine shops and sub-contractors but the finished products end up as components distributed all over the world.
We hold special grades for specific industries such as naval and aerospace standards, along with internationally recognised specifications to ensure quality and continuity. This range, combined with our own high performance trademark alloys ensures that we can offer a grade suitable for virtually any application.
To help designers and fabricators we have also developed a number of free machining grades. These include COLPHOS 90®, SILVERSPEED-XL®, COLSPEED 90®, and ENVIROBRASS®, giving our customers the opportunity of producing complex parts from a variety of materials.
Aerospace
Columbia Metals has a large stock range of fully traceable materials ready for immediate supply to the aerospace industry. We have built up a collection of dedicated aerospace grades in stainless steel, nickel and copper based alloys, including a range of our own trademark alloys to meet the needs of more demanding safety critical components.Alloy ranges include the BS “S” series stainless, DTD specifications, BS B series of copper based alloys and other grades including the low thermal expansion alloys, our own Trademarks such as NIBRON SPECIAL® and the nickel super-alloys.
Offshore & Marine
Over the past 45 years we have built a healthy relationship with marine engineers, shipbuilders and offshore contractors. We hold a dedicated stock of naval engineering alloys, duplex and super-duplex stainless steels, our own trademark alloys and traditional alloys such as the cupronickels.
Our three leading alloys offering excellent corrosion resistance in offshore environments are:
NIBRON SPECIAL® – An extra high strength cupronickel with an excellent corrosion resistance, anti- galling properties, high wear resistance, non-biofouling and an extremely low magnetic permeability.
AMAZON 256-Cu – A superduplex stainless steel conforming to the underlying specification of UNS S32550. It has high strength levels and good corrosion resistance ideal for a splash zone environment.
Alloy 718 – A nickel super-alloy with excellent corrosion resistance and capable of attaining excellent strength and toughness when fully heat treated.
The huge range of marine alloys is available in a variety of forms including sheet, plate, rod and section enabling us to solve your every need.
Power Generation
In addition to supplying a wide range of alloy grades for mechanical fasteners and fixtures destined for use within the power generation industry, we can also offer a range of high strength, copper-based materials. Several of these exhibit high modulus characteristics together with good electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance, making them suitable for a variety of overhead transmission items and other electrical power applications.
Automotive
Several of our trademark alloys have become recognised as “best in class” where they are used in high performance racing engines. Due to a unique blend of properties, not available in other materials within the same price range, they are commonly employed for their excellent wear and bearing characteristics.Chemical Processing
Components and equipment for use in modern chemical plant demand high integrity material which is able to perform in a wide variety of aggressive and challenging environments. Columbia Metals’ extensive stock range ensures that customer demands for such materials can be speedily and efficiently met.
